Learning to 'Upcycle'
MIKE SPRINGER/Staff photo
Lou Leelyn, an eco artisan from Wendell, helps nine-year-old Hope Castellucci use an iron during an "upcycling" workshop Thursday at the Sawyer Free Library in Gloucester. The pressure and heat from the iron is used to fuse non-recyclable plastic food wrappers to a thin plastic sheet cut from the inside bag from a cereal box to create a new textile for use in making tote bags, wallets and other items. After explaining the process, Leelyn showed the children how to make their own items. For more information, go to http://www.lousupcycles.com.
