A heavy-lifting vehicle moves boulders Monday on Granite Pier in Rockport. Classic Site Solutions of Springfield, a contractor for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is gathering rocks at the pier in preparation for the Rockport Harbor breakwater rebuilding project. About 10,000 tons of the rocks -- many the size of cars and weighing 6 or 7 tons each -- will be used in the $2.5 million project, which will begin in early January. The huge boulders will replace the smaller rocks of the current breakwater, making it less prone to damage from heavy storms.
