Sixth-graders, from left, Jared Lucido, Kevin Sargent and Brady Lattanzi try some freshly popped popcorn Thursday in Brett Dunton's art class at O'Maley Innovation Middle School in Gloucester. FoodCorps service member Meghan Stratton of Backyard Growers visited the school for "Popcorn Day," which featured popcorn grown by students in the O'Maley garden. Besides enjoying the popcorn, students explored popcorn-related lessons in a variety of disciplines. For example, they calculated popping percentages in math class, composed popcorn poetry in English, looked at global historical popcorn timelines in social studies and made popcorn still-life drawings in art class.
