Post Office Repairs

Connor Lyons of the Braintree-based Paul J. Rogan Company uses an elevated platform Wednesday to lower a storm window down from the U.S. Post Office on Dale Avenue in Gloucester. An approximately $700,000 exterior renovation project has been underway at the federal building since the first week in May. Water had been leaking into the interior through windows and through cracks in the brickwork, so workers are rebuilding all the window frames, replacing the windows, replacing mortar in some of the brickwork, and fixing the copper flashing around the ornamental parapet at the top of the building. The project is expected to continue for another two months, but the post office remains open for business as usual.
