Third-graders Ava Coelho, right, and Kayleigh Greene juggle scarves during a school-wide "Juggle for Peace" event Friday at Rockport Elementary School. Building on last year's "Jumping for Peace" event, students led by third-grade teacher Beth Zerilli and physical education teacher Erin Canniff raised $2,000 in pledges to benefit Team MR8: The Martin Richard Foundation, a non-profit charity named after the eight-year-old boy who died in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings. Zerilli knew both of Martin Richard's parents in college, and is a member of the MR8 team running in this year's marathon. Canniff leads students in the school's running and juggling clubs. Juggling is viewed as benefitial for the students' brain developent, helping with balance, coordination and fitness. In Friday's marathon-themed event, students throughout the school juggled continuously to the sound of Irish music for 26.2 minutes -- 13.1 minutes in the morning and 13.1 minutes in the afternoon.
