Students from the Northshore Education Consortium's Topsfield Vocatioal Academy launch a 20-foot Banks dory on Tuesday at the Essex Shipbuilding Museum in Essex. The students built the dory in the museum's workshop this year. It is based on a 1935 design by Amesbury shipbuilder Hiram Lowell. The dory is one of several student-built dories that will be carried aboard the Gloucester-based schooner Adventure, which originally deployed as many as 14 fishing dories in its heyday. About 15 students and 30 spectators, including officials from the Adventure, were on hand Tuesday for the launch. A second dory, built for the Adventure last year by young apprentices at Lowell's Boat Shop in Amesbury, was also launched during the event.
