Henry Ferrini/Courtesy photo. Vincent Ferrini (1913-2007), shown, and the late poet Charles Olson (1910-1970) form the posthumous pillars of the center. Ferrini was the son of a Lynn shoe factory worker and often referred to as the last surviving proletarian poet. Olson, a mailman’s son, is often called the first American post-modern poet. Olson and Ferrini made their homes in Gloucester, which served them both as a source of great inspiration — and fostering inspiration is the mission of the writers center.
