Ann Straccia visits with her beagle, Ellie, at the Grace Center Tuesday at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Gloucester. Straccia, one of the UU church's 10 Citizenship Award winners for 2014, volunteers at the day shelter. She rescued Ellie, who was abandoned by a puppy mill in North Carolina when she could no longer produce enough puppies, from being euthanized over a year ago, and now the two are constant companions.
