Gloucester: Remi Sonia, 11, of Rockport holds Skippy, who is partially blind, as she learns how to volunteer at Cape Ann Animal Aid yesterday. She is part of the Jane Goodall Roots and Shoots program, which encourages community service. Even though Goodall has studied chimpanzees for nearly 50 years, she told some Rockport students last year that dogs are her favorite animal because of their affection and service to all kinds of people, whether they are disabled or just in need of companionship. In that spirit, the local students in this year's group are showing community service by volunteering to walk dogs at the local shelter.
