ALLEGRA BOVERMAN/Gloucester Daily Times Members of the Clean Team had a thank you/end of summer bash and luncheon at Papa Gino's in Gloucester on Friday. There are more than 80 teens and young adults involved in the program which is part of the Cape Ann YMCA and works in conjunction with the city's Downtown Development Commission and its subcommittee the Downtown Improvement Committee. The program is in its fifth year and this year, got an extra grant to expand cleanup and maintenance to many of the neighborhoods in Gloucester outside downtown. Joe Ciolino, a city councilmember who acts as a liasion to the group, said that without the help of the Clean Team members, the city would not be visitor ready. He emphasized their help in not only trash collection but the watering of the many planters and mini gardens downtown. The Department of Public Works assists the team, as does CATA - allowing team members to get free rides on the bus when they wear their t-shirts, to get to and from their job sites around the city and its neighborhoods.
