Steeplejack at work

George Burgess Jr. of Rockwood, Maine, scrapes paint from the framework around the colonial fanlight window on the clock deck of the historic First Parish Church meeting house, high above Town Hall in Manchester. A third-generation steeplejack originally from the Newburyport area, Burgess has revisited the 206-year-old Manchester church many times over the past three decades for repairs and restoration work. He is currently re-painting the exterior.
