Lia Sophia Numerosi, 9, and Ewan McCarthy, 11, both of Gloucester, practice a choreographed fight scene as instructor Robert Walsh looks on Friday during a stage combat lesson at the Gloucester Stage's Youth Acting Workshop. Walsh, the interim artistic director at the theater, is trained as a stage combat director. He showed the students how to choreograph and rehearse safe, non-violent simulations of slapping, kicking, choking, shoving, tripping and other not-so-friendly actions that are sometimes called upon when performing plays onstage.
