It was about telling the story through photos and video told by several Gloucester Fishermen in their own words, that ran in the Times for a whole week. The history of Gloucester's Fishing industry is dying due to goverments new rules and fishing limits, that are forcing many of our Gloucestermen to sell their boats and end the family tradition of fishing for future generations. I really enjoyed talking with all these hard working men, and thanked them for giving me their time and allowing me to capture their true spirit. On each of the fishermen I photographered, I was given time to light my scene with off camera flashes and colored gels that would have more impact to my image of those men that risk their lives everyday to make a living to take care of their families. Thats why this is my favoite pick for Photo of the Year. DESI SMITH/Staff photo
