Talking about Portugal, St. Ann Middle School eighth grader Gabriela Llanos shows off a brinquinho, a musical instrument that sets the rhythm for dances in Portugal, while also wearing a bone, a hat her grandfather bought for her there, during the Heritage Fair on Tuesday.
The middle school students have spent time studying countries where they have ancestors and family or are from themselves, and put on display information about their cultures, customs, made food native to those countries and discussed how Christmas is celebrated in those countries. The students and teachers also created a cookbook with 40 recipes from around the world and proceeds from the cookbook sales will fund middle school activites for next year.
