Artist Betty Lou Schlemm, 80, pets her dog Michael on Monday while preparing a retrospective exhibit and sale of her paintings -- almost all of her life's work -- at the North Shore Arts Association in Gloucester. Michael, who Schlemm adopted six years ago, inspired the artist to donate a third of the proceeds from the sale of her paintings to Cape Ann Animal Aid, which rescued the dog from the streets of Puerto Rico. The other two thirds will go to Wellspring House and The Open Door food pantry.
