Greg Marchant, left, of Gloucester, helps his younger daughter Violet Marchant, 6, to "belly boards," in the sluiceway at Goose Cove below the Goose Cove causeway on Tuesday afternoon as the tide was coming back in. Greg, a Gloucester firefighter Greg Marchant, used to do this very activity as a youth, and built a "body board" that closely resembles the one he used to use. A rope is tied to the causeway's guard rail and he was teaching and closely supervising his two daughters and some of their neighbors who were playing there in the afternoon heat. He restarted this old tradition in that neighborhood this week. He hadn't done "belly boarding" in that spot in the last 10 years, since had his children. Vivian, his older daughter, 9, said it was refreshing and Greg said she picked up this skill very quickly.
