Tiny Toadlet
MIKE SPRINGER/Staff photo
Fern MacDougal, an instructor with Kestrel Educational Adventures, looks at a tiny toad -- smaller than a postage stamp -- at the group's Get Outside Center in downtown Gloucester. As we reported on May 18, Kestrel had obtained about 300 tadpoles of the spadefoot toad, a threatened species, and planned to reintroduce them into the wild after they safely changed into toads. Most of the little toadlets were released last week, but a few slow-developing individuals, like the one MacDougal is holding, are still being cared for at the center, located at 186 Main Street. The public is invited to stop by and take a look.
