Tadpole-Toad
MIKE SPRINGER/Staff photo
A newly emerging spade foot toad, which still has a tail and other features of its early life as a tadpole, clings to a cluster of air bubbles at the surface of an aquarium at the Kestrel Educational Adventures Get Outside Center in downtown Gloucester. Most of the 300 rare spadefoot tadpoles that were nurtured at the center were reintroduced to the wild as young toads, or toadlets, last week. But this one, and a few other slow-developers, are still residing at the center.
