Crossing guard Lynn Cavender, dressed in a parrot costume, laughs with a student as she helps him cross the street Friday near East Gloucester Elementary School. Cavender, who also serves as an assistant fifth grade teacher, had just played Captain Hook's Parrot in the fifth grade production of "Peter Pan," so she decided to keep the costume on while working at the crosswalk.
