Jim Dunlap, a lampist from Staten Island, New York, puts the finishing touches Monday on a three-ton Fresnel lens, originally housed in the south tower on Thatcher Island, at the Cape Ann Museum in Gloucester. The antique lens has move than 1,000 glass prisms that could focus a beam of light visible from up to 22 miles away at sea.
