Gloucester: Beeman Elementary School fifth graders participated in the new Ocean Explorers Program a collaborative effort between Maritime Gloucester and NOAA and the schooner Ardelle. The students were learning what it's like to be a marine or physical scientist and were taking a ride on the Ardelle to examine the area's coastal habitats, learn about basic oceanography, invasive species, and examine plankton. Staffers from NOAA and educators from Maritime Gloucester were on board with them. Amanda Madeira, back, a Maritime Gloucester educator, and Kirsten Munroe work the ropes on the schooner as it pulls back into its berth at Maritime Gloucester after the ride.
