Painting the Schooner 'Fame'
MIKE SPRINGER/Staff photo
Crew member Chris Birch puts a fresh coat of red paint on the rudder of the schooner Fame of Salem at the Gloucester Marine Railways shipyard on Rocky Neck in Gloucester. A replica of a War of 1812 privateer, the Fame was built at Essex in 2002-2003 by Harold Burnham. Workers said they expect to relaunch the Fame by early next week and sail it back to Salem in time for the May 14 start of the 2016 tour season.
