MIKE SPRINGER/Gloucester Daily Times
Gabriel St-Denis of Ottawa, Canada makes his way along the jibboom, a long spar at the end of the bowsprit, while uprigging the schooner Lynx on Thursday in Gloucester. The Lynx is a 122-foot (sparred) topsail schooner built as a replica of a War of 1812 privateer. Based in Newport Beach, Calif., the ship's current port of registry is Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The Lynx Educational Foundation uses the ship to teach seamanship and maritime history. In about two weeks, when the annual maintenance is finished and the rigging is up, the crew will sail the Lynx from its temporary dock at Maritime Gloucester to its winter port in Florida.
