Essex Police Chief Peter Silva, right, and Detective Mike French paid a visit to Winthrop St. on Thursday afternoon to assess properly numbered homes as well as improperly numbered ones as well. During the next few weeks the Essex Police Department will be going around and enforcing a state law, and town bylaw, that states houses must have numbers clearly marked on the front of each house. Chief Silva says having clearly numbered houses will help reduce response times for emergencies and that police will be warning people first, and if they fail to comply, then will be handed a fine.
