Drought Affects Area Farms

Ken Lane, owner of Seaview Farm in Rockport, looks out over his dry pasture in Essex while filling the stock tank for his cattle on Friday. Lane, who farms on land in several towns besides Rockort, usually uses the Essex field to grow hay, he says, but this summer the dry grass isn't growing back fast enough for a hay crop, so he's letting the cattle graze on it. As a consequence, Lane expects to have less hay on hand when winter comes.
