This injured grey seal, shown resting Tuesday on the beach at Old House Cove in Gloucester, was rescued Thursday afternoon by a team of biologists from the Rye, New Hampshire-based Seacoast Science Center and the National Oceanic & Atmosphic Administration (NOAA). Jodi Swenson of the Cape Ann Wildlife, Inc., in Essex had lobbied for the rescue on Facebook and through direct phone calls. Swenson said the biologists suspect the weanling seal had been injured by a shark. By Thursday afternoon it was in a serious state of dehydration. The rescuers used a tube to give the seal water before transporting it to the National Marine Life Center at Buzzards Bay, where it will be treated.
