Read Moreshellfish propagation project
Rebecca Visnick Gloucester Deputy Shellfish Constable walks back to the shore after checking on Jim Derney's clamflat off of Craft's Road in Gloucester, which was recently seeded with clams to help recover the pool performing clamming flat.
The Gloucester shellfish department started their first propagation project in 20 years in an area called Jim Derney's flat off of Craft's Road in Gloucester. The department was awarded a Federal grant to help stimulate the shellfishing economy in Gloucester after the dip in market during the early days of the pandemic. We are working with some of our clammers to set seed nets in part of the Annisquam River in order to revitalize an underperforming shellfish flat. 5/23/22
