Music instructor Rich Carpenter teaches fifth-grader Harrison Pierpan how to play the bass clarinet Wednesday at Essex Elementary School. Usually a b flat soprano clarinet player, Harrison was trying out the larger bass instrument in preparation for this year's holiday concert, which will be held December 22 at Manchester Essex Regional Middle and High School.
